Moreover, one important fact that should always be at the back of our mind when treating wounds is that wounds can easily be infested with dangerous germs and tetanus . The fear of tetanus or what is referred to as lock jaw in the medical should be the beginning of wisdom for us. To prevent tetanus infestation of wounds, Dr. Wale Oguntuase advised that no wound should be handled with kid gloves as wounds either slight or serious are all prone to tetanus infestation.

• Puncture wounds and stabs are another types of wound that could result or caused by narrow, pointed instruments, such as nails, thorns, needles, scissors, blades, bullets, arrows and other similar sharp or pointed objects or instrument. He however advised that this type of wounds should be cleansed properly as much as possible, by rubbing antiseptic/methylated spirit or other cleansing lotion meant for wound tratment/dreassing over the surrounded area. Apply a firm pressure bandage and immediately carry the patient to hospital without any delay.

The doctor also advised that such type of wounds should be treated in hospitals or clinics and not in any patent medicine shops, or even at home as it is the habit of many people. The reason given is that much tissues are often involved, which can only be properly treated under hygienic, suitable anaesthesia. Incised wound sometimes may have to be thoroughly cleansed and treated under the supervision of a medical practioner.
