Many reasons you must take oranges

Nature has endowed man with many fruits and vegetables including oranges. Its juice, which does not only help to quench thirst, but also to prevent several diseases such as asthma, cancer and hypertension,

Orange juice has wide appeal since it is consumed by individuals of all ages, from early childhood to old age. Moreover, for individuals who want to live a healthy life, this may provide a healthy and attractive alternative. “Nature has endowed man with many fruits and vegetables including oranges. However, for this seasonal fruit, which many take to quench their thirst, it sounds unfortunate that a great number of its health benefits are unknown to many. Several studies have highlighted them and they include the following:

Osteoporosis
Drinking more orange or grapefruit juice may reduce bone loss and decrease the risk of osteoporosis in later life. A Texas study that looked at the effects of orange and grapefruit juice on 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats who had their testes removed (orchidectomised), reported that being a rich source of flavonoids and limonoids, it could potentially improve bone health.

The 2006 study, published in the May issue of the journal Nutrition looked at the effects of orange and grapefruit juice on 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats who had their testes removed (orchidectomised).

At the end of the study, the researchers found that the femoral (hipbone) strength of the orange juice group increased by 6.3 per cent compared to the castrated, unsupplemented group, and had a 9.5 per cent reduction in femoral fracture rate.
Supplementation with grapefruit juice increased hip bone strength by 3.7 per cent and reduced the fracture rate by 6.8 per cent, compared to the castrated, unsupplemented group.
